Abstract
Hypertension can lead to cardiovascular complications and the risk of sudden incapacity among Air Force Special Personnel (PKMU) of Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) . Lakespra dr. Saryanto plays a role in monitoring the health of PKMU through periodic examinations to maintain their flight fitness status. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of PKMU at Lakespra dr. Saryanto regarding the impact of hypertension on aviation physiology. This study employed a descriptive-analytic method with a quantitative approach using a questionnaire. The sample consisted of 170 PKMU, determined using Slovin's formula and purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. Data were analyzed univariately to describe the distribution of knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors, and bivariately using the Spearman Rank correlation test to examine the relationships between these three variables. The results showed that the respondents' knowledge level was predominantly in the "good" category (67.6%) with a mean score of 81.2; the attitude level was predominantly "good" (87.1%) with a mean score of 87.7; and the behavior level was predominantly "good" (80.0%) with a mean score of 86.7. Spearman Rank correlation test results indicated no significant relationship between knowledge and behavior (p = 0.408; ρ = 0.064) or between knowledge and attitude (p = 0.052), whereas attitude was found to have a significant relationship with behavior (p = 0.001). In conclusion, attitude is related to the behavior of PKMU regarding the impact of hypertension on aviation physiology, whereas knowledge is not significantly related to either attitude or behavior. Therefore, strengthening attitudes requires attention in efforts to improve behaviors that support flight safety.
