Histopathological spectrum and clinicopathological correlation of gallbladder lesions in cholecys-tectomy specimens: A retrospective study at a tertiary care centre in Gujarat
By Shifa Nagori and Dr Mona Patel.
Abstract
Background
Cholecystectomy specimens exhibit inflammatory, metaplastic, dysplastic and malignant lesions. Histopathological examination can identify clinically unsuspected abnormalities, but the relative frequency of these lesions varies by region and surgical case mix.
Objectives
To describe the histopathological spectrum of gallbladder lesions and examine their distribution across demographic characteristics, clinical findings and gallstone status. Materials and Methods: This retrospective observational study includes 238 cholecystectomy specimens received at a tertiary care pathology department in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, between January 2025 and December 2025. Demographic, clinical, radiological, gross and histopathological findings were organized into descriptive tables. Principal diagnoses were separated from coexisting epithelial changes to avoid double counting, and preoperative suspicion was cross-tabulated against final malignancy classification.
