Association Between Demographic Variables and Knowledge Regarding Immediate Care of Myocardial Infarction Among ICU Nurses
By Rajesh Kumar Bairwa and Sukhpreet Kaur.
Abstract
Introduction Myocardial infarction (MI) is a major cardiovascular emergency requiring prompt recognition and immediate management to reduce morbidity and mortality. Staff nurses play a crucial role in the early identification and emergency care of patients with myocardial infarction. Adequate knowledge regarding immediate care is essential for improving patient outcomes. The present study was conducted to assess the association between selected demographic variables and knowledge regarding immediate care of myocardial infarction among staff nurses. Methods A quantitative research approach was adopted to evaluate the relationship between demographic characteristics and knowledge regarding myocardial infarction management. Data were collected from staff nurses using a structured knowledge questionnaire. Demographic variables included age, gender, educational qualification, professional experience, and other relevant characteristics. Statistical analysis was performed to determine the association between demographic variables and knowledge scores. Results The findings revealed that age had a statistically significant association with knowledge scores regarding immediate care of myocardial infarction among staff nurses. However, no significant association was observed between knowledge scores and other demographic variables. The results suggest that age may influence knowledge levels related to myocardial infarction management. Discussion The study highlights the importance of assessing factors influencing nurses' knowledge of emergency cardiac care. Since age demonstrated a significant association with knowledge, continuous professional education and regular training programs should be provided to staff nurses across all age groups to ensure competency in managing myocardial infarction emergencies. Strengthening knowledge through evidence-based educational interventions may enhance the quality of patient care and improve clinical outcomes. How to cite this article:Bairwa R K, Kaur S.
