Abstract
This study analyzed data on fatal traffic crashes in Aparecida de Goiânia between 2020 and 2022. The objective was to identify critical roads and propose improvements for locations with the highest severity rates of traffic crashes involving fatalities. The method used in this study involved four stages: processing the RENAEST database, spatial distribution of the data using QGIS, identification of critical roads and sections, Road Safety Audit with the help of a checklist, and, finally, the presentation of solution proposals. As a result, the overall data analysis showed a reduction in the number of fatal crashes over the years, with higher crash frequency on weekends and at night, a greater number of male victims, and victims under the age of 39. Spatially, there was a prevalence of fatal crashes on roads near the border with Goiânia and the BR-153, and in neighborhoods such as Vila Brasília, Setor Garavelo Residencial Park, Setor Garavelo, Polo Empresarial de Goiás, and Independência. The ranking analysis of the roads identified Dom Pedro II Street and GO-040 as critical roads for fatal crashes. The road safety audit on critical roads revealed conditions requiring improvements in signage, lighting, speed management, and the installation of longitudinal containment devices. For future research, it is suggested that the Road Safety Audit be conducted in person, allowing for a complete recording of all local characteristics, including user behavior. Limitations of the study include the lack of information in the RENAEST database, hindering a more comprehensive and detailed characterization of fatal traffic crashes.
