Abstract
ABSTRACT Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) is a bilateral progressive degenerative pathology that constitutes the most prevalent posterior corneal dystrophy and one of the main indications for corneal transplantation in adults. It typically presents in the fifth-sixth decade of life with female predominance (3:1 to 4:1 ratio), characterized by progressive loss of endothelial cells, guttae formation, and corneal edema with morning predominance. Diagnosis requires comprehensive evaluation combining slit-lamp biomicroscopy with specular microscopy as the gold standard technique, allowing quantification of endothelial cell density and assessment of polymegathism and pleomorphism.
