Laparoskopik Kolesistektomilerde Antiemetik Uygulama Zamanının Postoperatif Bulantı ve Kusma Üzerine Etkisi: Prospektif, Randomize Klinik Çalışma: Antiemetic timing in laparoscopic cholecystectomy

Abstract
Background
Despite advances in anesthesia and surgery, postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) remains common, affecting up to 80% of cases, especially in laparoscopic procedures. This study evaluated the impact of prophylactic intravenous ondansetron given right after anesthesia induction or at surgery's end on PONV rates, symptom severity, and side effects in patients undergoing elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Materials and Methods: 110 patients aged 18–65 years with ASA I–II, scheduled for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy, participated in this randomized study. They were divided into two groups: Group 1 (n=54) received 0.15 mg/kg ondansetron IV within 5 minutes of anesthesia induction, and Group 2 (n=56) received the same dose at the end of surgery during skin suturing. Postoperative nausea was monitored for 24 hours using the Visual Analog Scale for Nausea (VAS-N), and vomiting was assessed with the Verbal Descriptive Scale (VDS). Patients with a VAS-N score ≥5 or VDS ≥3 received 10 mg IV metoclopramide as rescue antiemetic.
