Abstract
Cut Nyak Dhien Regional General Hospital Meulaboh, as one of the healthcare facilities in West Aceh, generates solid medical waste that poses potential risks to environmental pollution and disease transmission. The hospital has established a partnership with the West Aceh Environmental Agency for the management of its medical waste; however, the waste management process has not yet been comprehensively documented. Therefore, this study aimed to describe solid medical waste management as an effort to prevent disease transmission at Cut Nyak Dhien Regional General Hospital Meulaboh. This descriptive study employed a qualitative approach and was conducted in June 2024 at the West Aceh Environmental Agency and Cut Nyak Dhien Regional General Hospital Meulaboh. Informants were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results showed that the West Aceh Environmental Agency had carried out monitoring, education, and supervision of solid medical waste management at Cut Nyak Dhien Regional General Hospital Meulaboh. The hospital had also implemented solid medical waste management in accordance with applicable regulations, including waste segregation, storage, transportation, and treatment. However, implementation was not yet optimal due to limitations in human resources and budget, as well as operational constraints that affected the effectiveness of supervision and solid medical waste management.
