Abstract
Background
Lifestyle and psychological factors are increasingly recognized as important determinants of cardiometabolic health. Serum lipid concentrations are influenced not only by genetic predisposition but also by diet, physical activity, stress, and other behavioral characteristics. Variations in lipid parameters among apparently healthy individuals may reflect early metabolic alterations preceding overt dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease. Aims and Objectives: This study assessed the association between personality traits, evaluated using the five-factor model, and serum lipid parameters among undergraduate medical students at Government Medical College, Basti, Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from December 2023 to January 2024, enrolling 100 apparently healthy male and female medical students. Personality traits and serum lipid parameters – including total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and very-LDL-C – were measured. Multivariable linear regression analyses were performed after adjustment for age and sex.
