Correlation of Axillary Nodal with Breast Response Following Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy in Early Breast Cancer
By Agrawal, A., Soliman, M., Ahmed, B. and 2 others.
Abstract
Background
Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) facilitates de-escalation of breast and axillary treatment in breast cancer, but pathological responses may differ between the primary tumour and axillary lymph nodes. Understanding differential response is crucial for de-escalation strategies.
Methods
This single university hospital retrospective study analysed operable breast cancers (cT1-cT3, cN0-cN3) treated with NACT (January 2013-November 2020). Two-tailed Fishers exact test or the Chi-squared test (for 2x2 comparisons) analysed concordance between breast and axillary pathological responses; Cox proportional hazards regression ascertained predictors of distant recurrence and survival; and logistic regression ascertained predictors of complete axillary response.
