Abstract / Summary
Across the UK, older adults in deprived areas like Barnsley are spending more of their lives in poor health. Alongside increased loneliness, this creates barriers to leading active healthy lives that can lead to decreases in the quality of life of residents and increased pressure on healthcare services. To address these issues, Barnsley Council brought together over 80 providers of physical activity classes for adults aged 50 and over as part of a joined up partnership called the Barnsley Older People Physical Activity Alliance (BOPPAA). The evaluation will explore how effectively the joined up partnership (BOPPAA) works in helping older adults lead active health lives by collecting information on involvement in the classes, and speaking to residents and organisations to get their thoughts and opinions. The findings will be used to help understand how BOPPAA can be improved to better meet the needs of the local population.
