Abstract / Summary
This study examined the prevalence of domestic elder abuse and examined factors in a province with a high aging index in Vietnam in 2025. Elder abuse was measured using the validated Vietnamese Domestic Elder Abuse Scale, covering psychological abuse, physical abuse, financial exploitation, neglect/abandonment. Logistic regressions identified factors associated with abuse. 29.44% of participants reported at least one abuse subtypes, with psychological abuse being the most common subtype (24.73%) and 9.82% experienced polyvictimization. Higher educational attainment was consistently associated with lower odds of all abuse subtypes. Having [≥]4 chronic conditions was associated with higher odds of psychological abuse compared with having none (OR= 2.79, 95%CI: 1.29-6.00). Difficulties in daily basic activities were associated with physical abuse (OR=5.42, 95%CI: 1.80-16.36), financial exploitation (OR=3.66, 95%CI: 1.34-10.01), and neglect/abandonment (OR=4.09, 95%CI: 1.72-9.70) compared with no difficulties. Findings highlight the need for stronger policy implementation and lifelong learning to prevent elder abuse in Vietnam.
