Clinically Translatable Uncertainty-Aware Machine Learning for Cardiovascular Disease Risk Analysis
By Roy S, Imran R, Haque MR and 1 others.
Abstract
Importance: Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Although machine learning models have demonstrated strong predictive performance, limited attention has been given to uncertainty quantification and gender-specific risk factor identification, which are essential for clinically trustworthy artificial intelligence.
Objective
To develop and evaluate an interpretable and uncertainty-aware machine learning framework for cardiovascular disease prediction that integrates an association study on biomarkers, explainable artificial intelligence, and gender-stratified risk assessment. Design, Setting, and Participants: This retrospective observational study utilized the UCI Heart Disease dataset comprising 918 participants, including 725 males and 193 females. Demographic, clinical, laboratory, and exercise-related variables were analyzed. Missing values were addressed using a hybrid imputation strategy combining MICE and supervised Random Forest imputation.
