The Role of Community-Based Health Interventions in Improving Preventive Health Behavior in Indonesia
By Andi Yulianto.
Abstract
Preventive health behavior plays a crucial role in reducing morbidity and mortality rates caused by communicable and non-communicable diseases in Indonesia. However, geographical and socioeconomic challenges, along with limited healthcare infrastructure, often hinder public access to promotive and preventive services. This study aims to analyze the role of community-based health interventions (such as Posyandu, Posbindu PTM, and village preparedness programs) in improving preventive health behavior across various regions in Indonesia. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach utilizing literature reviews and secondary analysis of public health program data and relevant policies in Indonesia over the past five years. Findings indicate that community-based interventions effectively enhance collective awareness, active citizen participation, and adherence to clean and healthy living behaviors (PHBS). Approaches involving local cadres and community leaders have proven successful in bridging the gap between formal healthcare systems and the real needs of grassroots communities.Community-based health interventions are an essential and effective strategy for promoting preventive health behavior changes in Indonesia. Strengthening cadre capacity and ensuring sustainable cross-sectoral support are key factors for optimizing the positive impact of these programs in the future.
