By Ghalia KHELLAF, Mohamed Benabadji and Ali Benziane.
Abstract
Introduction
Vitamin D deficiency is highly prevalent in patients with chronic kidney disease, including those on peritoneal dialysis (PD). This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of monthly oral native vitamin D (cholecalciferol) supplementation at a dose of 200,000 IU in patients on PD. Patients and Methods: We conducted a prospective, single-center study including patients treated in our PD unit for more than one month. We analyzed clinical parameters (sex, age, initial nephropathy) and biological parameters, including serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D], calcium, phosphorus, intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH), bone-specific alkaline phosphatase, and albumin. Measurements were taken at baseline and three months after initiating treatment with native vitamin D.
