Abstract
Generalized peritonitis is a life-threatening medical and surgical emergency whose prognosis depends on prompt diagnosis and timely management. We report the case of a patient admitted with diffuse abdominal pain evolving over 24 hours, associated with fever, deterioration of the general condition, and a history of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use. Surgical exploration revealed a 1-cm sigmoid colon perforation, which was managed by a loop sigmoid colostomy over a supporting rod, extensive peritoneal lavage, and drainage. The postoperative course was uneventful, and the patient was discharged on postoperative day two.
