Abstract / Summary
Foeniculum vulgare (fennel) is a widely recognized medicinal plant valued in traditional medicine for its digestive, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and galactagogue properties. Increasing interest in integrative healthcare has created opportunities to examine its relevance within community medicine alongside Homoeopathy. This review explores the botanical characteristics, phytochemistry, pharmacological evidence, traditional applications, and Homoeopathic perspectives of Foeniculum vulgare while considering its potential contribution to health promotion, disease prevention, and primary healthcare. Current evidence suggests that herbal preparations of F. vulgare may support the management of selected gastrointestinal and respiratory conditions; however, evidence for Homoeopathic preparations remains limited and requires rigorous clinical evaluation. From a community medicine perspective, integrating evidence-based herbal medicine and appropriately evaluated Homoeopathic interventions within public health should prioritize safety, quality assurance, rational use, and patient-centered care. Further multidisciplinary research, including well-designed clinical trials and implementation studies, is essential to establish effectiveness, safety, and cost-effectiveness for community-based integrative healthcare programs.
