Abstract / Summary
This article reinterprets the DSM-5-TR child and adolescent depression profile through the SMART-NB methodology, proposing a multidimensional functional assessment beyond diagnostic classification. It examines depressed mood, irritability, anhedonia, fatigue, sleep, appetite, cognitive functioning, motivation, school performance, social participation, autonomy, family context, self-harm and suicide risk, neurodevelopmental comorbidity, medication effects, and longitudinal variability. The objective is to distinguish the presence of depressive symptoms from the functional mechanisms that shape daily performance, risk, and participation, providing a framework to guide individualized clinical priorities and intervention goals.
