By Sheeba S.
Abstract
Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) is a common endocrine disorder affecting women of reproductive age, marked by enlarged ovaries containing numerous small cysts arranged along the peripheral margin. It is a complex, multifactorial, and polygenic condition primarily caused by disturbances in reproductive hormone regulation, especially excessive androgen secretion. This hormonal imbalance results in characteristic ovarian alterations, including inflammation, increased ovarian size, capsular thickening, and a typical pearly white appearance. Clinically, PCOD presents with a wide range of symptoms such as obesity, menstrual disturbances including oligovulation and anovulation, Oligomenorrhoea, amenorrhea, infertility, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, hirsutism, acne, HAIR-AN syndrome, and other manifestations of Hyperandrogenism. In the present study, ten patients clinically diagnosed with PCOD were selected for evaluation. The aim was to assess the therapeutic effectiveness of individualized homeopathic management based on the principle of similimum. Remedies including Thuja Occidentalis, Natrum Muriaticum, Calcarea carbonica, and Oophorinium were prescribed following a detailed symptom-based and holistic assessment. All cases demonstrated a progressive improvement in clinical symptoms. Additionally, the treatment was effective in addressing associated complaints and minimizing symptom recurrence, an aspect where conventional treatment modalities often encounter limitations.
