Ayurvedic management of chronic vicharchika (eczema) of the ankle through shodhan and shaman chikitsa: A case report
By Dr. Poonam Khyalia1*, Dr. Ravi Sharma2, Dr. Om Prakash Sharma3.
Abstract
Background: Vicharchika, a Kapha–Pitta–Rakta predominant Kṣudra Kuṣṭha described in classical Ayurvedic literature, closely corresponds to the modern dermatological entity eczema, characterised by intense pruritus, erythema, scaling, crusting and, in chronic stages, lichenification. Conventional management with topical corticosteroids and antihistamines offers symptomatic relief but is frequently associated with recurrence and cutaneous side effects on prolonged use, creating a rationale for exploring an integrated Ayurvedic approach.
