Abstract / Summary
A BSTRACT Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is one of the most common complaints among women’s visits to the gynecologist. The recent adoption of diseases of the endometrium–evaluation and risk scoring (DEERS) may help gynecologists to better screen patients for AUB. Objective: The objective of this study is to assess the reliability of DEERS in diagnosing specific endometrial pathologies. Materials and Methods: This prospective, observational study included 250 cases of AUB. The study took place from June 2022 to December 2023 at a tertiary care teaching hospital in Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. Patients in the study were scheduled for endometrial sampling, which involved endometrial curettage and biopsy. Results: Independent risk factors for disease incidence were identified. It was determined that individuals aged 40 years and above had a 13.44 times higher risk of developing the disease. Postmenopausal women were also identified as independent determinants of disease incidence with a 2.84 times higher risk. Moreover, obese women were found to have a 1.98 times higher risk of endometrial disease. Conclusion: The use of DEERS provided better screening of AUB patients and thereby improved the management of these patients from both urban and rural milieus.
