Spontaneous haemorrhagic renal cyst ruptured: A rare event causing massive hemoperitoneum
By Nor Haniza Arasad, Mohd Hafizuddin Husin and Afif Sufian Adnan.
Abstract
Spontaneous renal haemorrhage is rare; the most common cause is a tumour. However, uncommonly, the spontaneous renal haemorrhage may also be caused by the ruptured renal cyst. Although simple renal cysts are commonly asymptomatic, it should be monitored regularly. Despite rare events of ruptured renal cysts, it may cause life-threatening events once occurred. A few preventive measures can be taken to avoid a ruptured renal cyst, such as using an abdominal corset or aspiration and sclerotherapy. However, in non-stable patients, surgical intervention is preferred.
