Abstract
To answer if Oral Health (OH) services are integrated within Individuals with Cancer (IC) care pathway among Primary Health Care (PHC). Using Population, Phenomena of Interest, and Context (PICo) strategy, a conceptual framework was developed as guide for search keys across four databases. Articles were screened following an adapted PRISMA flowchart. The sample was inserted onto Connected Papers platform in order to identify similar studies. Among 31 studies describing OH services in IC care pathway, thirteen focused exclusively on children; twelve on individuals with head and neck cancer; four on patients requiring intubation for surgical removal; meanwhile only two offered OH services without restrictions based on patient characteristics or clinical conditions. These two studies did not generate further research describing OH services for IC from the PHC perspective. OH services lack a predefined care pathway for IC within PHC, as well as a guaranteed provision and standardized care protocols. Access barriers were identified, which included limited awareness of OH needs among medical teams and lack of shared responsibility for IC by dental professionals. To ensure comprehensive care, action plans are required to incorporate OH services into IC care pathway and to effectively operationalize PHC.
