Abstract / Summary
This study examined the relationship between ball advancement (BA) starting and termination locations and the influence of termination location on offensive outcomes during basketball fast breaks. Using an observational design, 1024 fast breaks following defensive rebounds were analyzed from 132 games involving 12 teams in the 2025 Kanto University Basketball League Division 1 for men. Video footage was coded using Hudl Sportscode, and statistical analyses were performed using IBM SPSS Statistics 31. The significance threshold was set at p < 0.05 for Pearson’s chi-square tests and p < 0.00208 for coefficient tests in multinomial logistic regression following Bonferroni correction. Significant associations were found between BA starting and termination locations (χ2(24) = 206.025, p < 0.001, V = 0.224) and between BA termination location and offensive outcomes (p < 0.001, V = 0.249). Compared with the paint (Zone E), Zone D showed higher odds of made three-point field goals relative to made two-point field goals (OR = 10.833, 95% CI: 3.707–31.658). These findings may inform the evaluation of BA starting and termination locations alongside offensive outcomes.
