Abstract
More public health and cancer prevention initiatives are embracing community-led projects. This presents a unique opportunity to support multidisciplinary talent by embedding health communication strategy into health systems working on cancer prevention. Programs seeking to address disparities in breast cancer mortality are partnering with community health workers, community health education specialists, and clinicians. Two community-led programs consulted with health communication experts to improve their mammography promotion. These projects sought advice on how to discuss risk and cancer disparities without encouraging fatalism. Both projects succeeded in increasing mammography rates. A workflow to promote health communication strategic decision-making among multidisciplinary teams is described in this study.
