Abstract
Sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption continues to increase and has become a major risk factor for various non-communicable diseases. Nutrition label knowledge is expected to help consumers make healthier beverage choices; however, previous studies have reported inconsistent findings regarding its association with consumption behavior. This study aimed to analyze scientific evidence on the relationship between nutrition label knowledge and sugar-sweetened beverage consumption behavior through a descriptive literature review. A narrative synthesis was conducted using original research articles retrieved from Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect. Articles published between 2021 and 2026 were selected based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in nine eligible studies. The findings indicate that most studies reported a positive relationship between nutrition label knowledge and healthier consumption behavior, although several studies found no significant association. Beverage consumption behavior was also influenced by label presentation, product accessibility, social environment, taste preferences, and promotional exposure. These findings suggest that improving nutrition label knowledge should be supported by effective nutrition labeling strategies and supportive environments to encourage healthier beverage choices, particularly among adolescents and young adults.
