Telessaúde e aplicativos de saúde como lugares e não-lugares digitais: educação em saúde e o desafioda escuta mediada
By Gláucio Aranha.
Abstract
This essay offers a critical reflection on digital health spaces, such as telehealth platforms and self-monitoring apps, through the anthropological concept of “non-place” (Augé). It argues that, although potentially democratizing, these technologies often create territories devoid of listening, symbolization, and meaningful connection. Drawing from cultural semiotics (Lotman) and everyday practices (Certeau), these interfaces are interpreted as liminal zones where places and non-places coexist and compete for meaning. The essay contends that health education plays a key role in the symbolic reappropriation of these environments, preparing professionals and users to enact gestures of listening, symbolic hospitality, and ethical care, even within technologically mediated contexts. The text is a call to cultivate mediated listening as a clinical and educational practice in an age marked by algorithmic medicalization and the automation of healthcare interfaces.
