Abstract / Summary
Objectives: To identify various ocular manifestations in paediatric patients with acute leukaemia and correlate these presentations with the haematological parameters of the patient. Materials and Methods: A retrospective hospital-based clinical study was conducted on patients of acute leukaemia aged 24 months–18 years. All patients underwent an ophthalmic examination. The ophthalmological findings were analysed with congruous haematological variables. Results: A total of 60 eyes of 30 patients were included in the study. Out of these, 18 were male, and the remaining 12 were female. Ocular findings were observed in 17 patients (56.6%). Pre-retinal haemorrhages were the most common finding. Conclusion: Ophthalmic manifestations are quite common in patients with acute leukaemia and were found to have some association with deranged haematological markers. Complete ophthalmological workup is highly recommended in such patients and should be done routinely for early detection and better prognosis of visual outcomes, as well as for monitoring the disease progression.
