Abstract
Introduction: The management of keratoconus with scleral lenses is generally more comfortable for the patient, which may result in better treatment adherence and optimal outcomes. This study compares the effectiveness of scleral lenses vs. rigid gas-permeable contact lenses in terms of visual acuity and contrast sensitivity. Objective: To compare visual acuity and contrast sensitivity in a post-corneal cross-linking patient fitted with an rigid gas-permeable contact lenses versus a scleral lens. Methods: A 14-year-old patient with advanced keratoconus and post crosslinking complications was evaluated using both types of lenses.Visual acuity and contrast sensitivity were measured using standardized tests (Pelli-Robson and Ishihara). Results: Scleral lenses showed more favorable results compared with rigid gas-permeable contact lenses, demonstrating better visual acuity and contrast sensitivity. Conclusion: Scleral lenses provide a better fit and superior outcomes compared with rigid gas-permeable contact lenses for this patient with advanced keratoconus following corneal crosslinking.
