Abstract
Football is a sport that demands the integration of various elements, including technical skills, strategy and tactics, physical conditioning, mental readiness, and an understanding of the rules of the game. In practice, football relies not only on the ability to kick the ball but also encompasses skills such as controlling, dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending, as well as making rapid decisions based on on-field situations. This article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of football, covering its definition and brief history, the objective of the game, fundamental techniques, player positions, tactical principles, physical conditioning, the rules of the game, and injury prevention measures. The study employs a literature review methodology, drawing upon official documents from the International Football Association Board (IFAB) and various scientific studies related to football and injury prevention. The findings indicate that mastering fundamental techniques must be supported by tactical proficiency and sound physical conditioning to enable players to perform optimally. Furthermore, the implementation of appropriate warm-up routines and injury prevention programs—such as the FIFA 11+—plays a crucial role in reducing the risk of player injuries. Therefore, football training should be conducted in a structured and holistic manner that addresses all aspects of the game, rather than focusing solely on technical mastery.
