Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a major health problem with ahigh prevalence in Banjar Regency, particularly in Melayu Tengah Village. Limitedcommunity knowledge of risk factors and the importance of early detection remaina major challenge to disease prevention. The Wasaka Care program was developed asa community engagement initiative to increase awareness, knowledge, and capacityfor the early detection of T2DM risk. The program was conducted on August25, 2025, at the Martapura Timur Subdistrict Hall and involved 19 participants, including community members at high risk of T2DM and a village health cadre. Theactivities included health screening, including blood glucose and related examinations,a pretest, health education using presentation materials, interactive discussion, aposttest, and program evaluation. The results showed a 68.4% improvement inparticipants’ knowledge, with the proportion of participants demonstrating goodknowledge increasing from 15.8% on the pretest to 52.6% on the posttest (p =0.018). In addition, screening results indicated that 36.8% of participants wereclassified as having prediabetes and 21.1% as having diabetes. The program waseffective in improving community understanding of T2DM prevention, althoughsome participants continued to demonstrate limited knowledge of specific aspects, particularly primary prevention. As a follow-up initiative, the team developed theWasaka Care application as a digital tool to support ongoing health education, monitoring, and T2DM risk management.
