Abstract / Summary
Purpose: To report the neodymium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser capsulotomy rates following implantation of three models of the FineVision (BVI Inc. Waltham, USA) diffractive trifocal intraocular lens (IOL). Methods: This was a multicentre, retrospective study including eyes implanted with the FineVision Micro F, FineVision POD/POD FT and the FineVision HP (POD F GF) IOL models after uncomplicated cataract or refractive lens exchange surgeries. The rate of Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy (cumulative incidence) during 1, 3, 5 and 10 years of follow-up were recorded. Results: 190,567 eyes implanted with the three FineVision IOL models were analysed: 170,047 eyes with the FineVision Micro F IOL model, 20,174 eyes with the FineVision POD IOL model, and 346 eyes with the FineVision HP IOL model. Cumulative incidence of Nd:YAG capsulotomy was 3% at 1 year, 6.2% at 3 years, 8.4% at 5 years and 10.9% of eyes at 10 years for the FineVision Micro F IOL model. For the FineVision POD/POD FT IOL model percentages were 6.9% at 1 year, 24.3% at 3 years, and 36.8% of eyes at 5 years. Finally, for the FineVision HP IOL model the percentage at 1 year of follow-up was 6.9% of eyes. Conclusion: Nd:YAG capsulotomies rates varied accordingly to the FineVision IOL model. Differences in IOL material (hydrophilic or hydrophobic) and haptic design (4-closed loops or a double C-loop) could account for these differences.
