Prophylactic Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation for Giant Mediastinal Tumors: A Systematic Review Protocol
By JOILSON FRANCISCO DE SOUZA JUNIOR and Derli Conceição Munhoz.
Abstract
Population (P): Patients diagnosed with an anterior/giant mediastinal mass at high risk for perioperative cardiorespiratory collapse. Intervention (I): Use of prophylactic ECMO (initiated prior to anesthetic induction, preferably while the patient is awake). Comparison (C): Conventional management, ECMO on standby, or rescue interventions following collapse. Outcome (O): Efficacy in preventing hemodynamic and airway collapse, perioperative mortality rates, and complications associated with cannulation.
