Opioid Use in Cancer Pain Management : A Review
By Sun Y, Bebecheva N, Tat MM and 1 others.
Abstract
This literature review aims to provide a detailed overview of the implications of opioid use for pain management in cancer. It seeks to shift the focus away from the stigma associated with opioids and towards their benefits for patients with cancer, without overlooking their risks and complications. It will provide clear background context on opioids, including their definition, types, composition, function, and application. Moreover, it will cover the key components surrounding cancer: how it occurs, its classifications, and how cancer pain arises through complex mechanisms. These two core concepts will then be combined to analyze how opioids are used in cancer treatment, their advantages, their complications, and possible alternatives. This literature review will therefore highlight the importance of understanding opioid use for cancer patients, with the aim of motivating further research into this complex topic and improving patient well-being.
