By V. Rakshana and R. Srinivasan.
Abstract
Background
Alzheimer's disease (AD) affects over 55 million people worldwide and is the most common cause of dementia, leading to progressive cognitive decline, behavioral changes, and loss of functional independence. The disease imposes significant emotional, physical, and financial burdens on patients, caregivers, and healthcare systems, with global costs projected to exceed $1 trillion due to aging populations.
