Abstract / Summary
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) patients often experience high levels of fatigue and significant psychological distress during hospitalization. These issues can negatively impact the success of the transplantation and the patient’s quality of life. However, there is a lack of universal standardized fatigue management programs for HSCT patients in China. This study protocol aims to demonstrate a multidisciplinary collaborative fatigue management program to reduce the fatigue associated with HSCT and promote comprehensive physical and psychological recovery. The trial aims to enroll 144 HSCT patients, who will be randomly assigned to experimental and control groups in a 1:1 ratio. The control group will receive standard care, while the intervention group will receive a one-on-one fatigue management program in addition to standard care throughout their hospitalization. Assessments for both groups will be conducted at several time points: baseline and admission (T0), the day of transplantation (T1), 1 week post-transplantation (T2), 2 weeks post-transplantation (T3), and the day of discharge (T4). The primary outcome measure is fatigue, with secondary outcomes including anxiety, depression, insomnia, and nutritional status levels. If the program proves efficacious, it has the potential to reduce fatigue, alleviate anxiety and depression, enhance the nutritional status of patients, and enable them to tolerate the transplantation process more effectively. This, in turn, can accelerate the effects of post-transplantation rehabilitation and facilitate the recovery of HSCT patients throughout the entire transplantation cycle. Additionally, it can provide a practical path for clinicians to improve patient survival outcomes.
