Abstract / Summary
Abstract Background Randomised controlled trials (RCT)s) are the gold standard for evidence generation in medicine. This analysis aims to report the number, trend and outcomes of general practice interventional RCTs registered on the Australian and New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ANZCTR). Methods The ANZCTR was searched for interventional general practice trials registered between 1 July 2005 and 30 June 2024. Results The number of newly registered trials has remained relatively static with a yearly average of 8.8 (SD = 3.0). Of completed trials 77.4% (89/115) reported results in a journal publication with positive results 39.3% (35/89). Conclusions The overall number of newly registered general practice trials has remained relatively static. Significant investment in research capability and infrastructure will be required for meaningful increases in general practice clinical trial activity.
