154 Low Grade Glioma: Review of treatment outcome and survival in NHS Tayside (2018-2025)
By Sri Nivetha Kamaraj and Hannah Lord.
Abstract
Abstract Introduction Low grade gliomas (LGG) are primary brain tumours that affect young adults and may transform to higher grade tumours. We evaluate treatment outcomes in patients with LGG in NHS Tayside. Method Retrospective review of adult patients with WHO grade 2 and 3 gliomas treated in NHS Tayside from 2018 to 2025. Data collected from NHS clinical portal including age at diagnosis, gender, histology, extent of surgery, adjuvant therapy (surveillance, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, combination) and progression free survival (PFS). Results 30 patients identified. Median age 42.5 years; range 27-76 years. M:F 1.4:1. Grade 2 Astro 11 patients (36.6%), Grade 2 Oligo 10 patients (30%), Grade 3 Astro 6 patients (20%), Grade 3 Oligo 2 patients (6.6%). All patients had surgical intervention: maximum debulking 27%, partial debulking 50%, biopsy alone 23%. Adjuvant therapy: XRT + Chemo (TMZ or PCV) 21 patients (70%), XRT 5 patients (16.6%), surveillance 4 patients (13.3%). Recurrence occurred in 10 patients (33%). Nine (30%) died in follow up period, 6 astro, 3 oligo. Overall restricted mean PFS for Grade 2 and 3 glioma is 72 months. Median PFS for Grade 2 glioma is 96 months, and for Grade 3 glioma 48 months. PFS for low grade oligodendroglioma is 81 months, and for low grade astrocytoma 73 months. Conclusion In NHS Tayside patients with low grade glioma have undetermined median survival due to limited data set. As expected, PFS is superior for patients with oligodendroglioma and grade 2 tumours. Going forward, careful decision making for treatments will be necessary in an era of greater understanding of molecular profiling and recent SMC approval of Vorasidenib.
