Abstract
The impact of pharmaceutical care service among cardiovascular disease patients was more efficient in improving quality of life and lowering the incidence of drug-related problems. However, to the best of our knowledge, there has been almost no study done on the impact of pharmaceutical care services on medication-related problems among Cardiovascular disorders, particularly in Ethiopia. To determine the impact of pharmaceutical care services on medication-related problems among ambulatory cardiovascular disease patients at Ilu Ababor and Buno Bedele Zones Hospitals. A multicenter quasi-experimental study design was conducted at four hospitals in the Ilu Ababor and Buno Bedele zones. Statistical Software Package for Social Sciences-version 25.0 was used to analyze the data. The primary outcome was reduction in medication-related problems following pharmacist-led pharmaceutical care intervention. The differences in medication-related problems between pre- and post-interventional were determined by using the McNemar test. Statistical significance was considered at a p-value < 0.05. Among 1269 study participants included in this study, 792(62.4%) were male, and the mean age with standard deviation was 53.88 ± 13.17 years. Of the total 1269 cardiovascular disease patients, 720(56.7%) patients had experienced medication-related problems before intervention. Among participants, 429(33.8%) patients had experienced medication-related problems after intervention. The McNemar test found that the pharmaceutical care service intervention was found to be statistically significant. The finding of study showed, medication-related problems were significantly reduced after pharmaceutical care service provided by clinical pharmacists. Hence, optimizing the integration of pharmaceutical care services is strongly recommended to support optimal management of cardiovascular disease.
