Structured Abstract Objective To examine attitudes toward sperm donation in the Black community. Design A qualitative descriptive study utilizing focused interviews with two to five participants to obtain information from individuals and interactions among Black participants in a small group setting. Facilitators were Black cisgender male peers trained by a research study team to allow for frank discussion. We collected data from three Midwest cities: Kansas City, Topeka, and Wichita. For data analysis, we highlighted significant statements and grouped similar concepts to identify the themes and patterns in the data. Subjects Black cisgender participants who agreed to discuss sperm donation. Exposure Participation in peer-led, small-group focus discussions centered on sperm donation. Main Outcome Measures The motivations and barriers to sperm donation. Results Black cisgender men are willing to donate sperm when they are knowledgeable the process and are knowing helping the community. Some barriers to donating sperm include lack of information, lack of confidence in the medical system, and personal beliefs. Conclusion By understanding the motivations and barriers behind Black cisgender men donating sperm, we can create culturally sensitive information regarding sperm donation targeted to the Black cisgender male community. Through the dissemination of scientifically accurate and culturally appropriate information, the donation of sperm in the Black community may increase, providing a more diverse sperm pool for selection in those undergoing third-party reproductive treatments.
