By Keyvan Mostofi and Bipin Chaurasia.
Abstract
ABSTRACT Neurosurgery remains one of the most male-dominated specialties in medicine, and pioneering women who break through its barriers risk being overlooked without deliberate historical documentation. This article traces the career of Dr. Benju Rashmi Pradhan, recognized as Nepal's first practicing female neurosurgeon, from her medical training in Bangladesh to her postgraduate specialization in neurosurgery in 2011 and her subsequent practice at B.P. Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital. Her trajectory is situated within the history of women's advancement in Nepali medicine, illuminating both individual achievement and the structural barriers pioneering women in South Asian medicine continue to navigate.
