Biomarkers for detecting and predicting macular neovascularization in age-related macular degeneration using optical coherence tomography angiography: a systematic review
By Parva Pourbagherkhah and Hemn Baghban Jaldian.
Abstract
Purpose
This systematic review evaluates the role of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA)-based biomarkers in detecting and predicting macular neovascularization (MNV) in age-related macular degeneration (ARMD).
Methods
A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar up to 20 May 2026, following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Inclusion criteria encompassed original cohort and cross-sectional studies reporting OCTA-derived quantitative and qualitative biomarkers associated with MNV.
