Synthetic PET for dementia diagnosis: raising the bar on evaluation beyond image similarity
By Ninon Burgos.
Abstract
Diagnosis and monitoring of multiple neurological disorders depends on PET biomarkers. However, PET is costly, involves radioactivity, and is less widely available than MRI, which is comparatively inexpensive, non-invasive, and already routinely used across many conditions. This asymmetry has motivated the development of computational approaches that synthesise PET-equivalent information from MRI.
