One Graft to Rule Them All: Minimizing Sensitization Risk with Single-Source Homograft for Valved Shunt and Arch Repair in Norwood Operation
By Satoshi Miyairi, Murfad Peer and Pranava Sinha.
Abstract
Homograft tissue is required for arch reconstruction in the Norwood stage I operation. Use of a valved right ventricle–to–pulmonary artery (RV-PA) shunt, typically necessitates a second homograft, increasing donor antigen exposure in patients who may require future heart transplantation. We describe our experience with use of a single source femoral vein homograft for reconstruction of both the aortic arch and valved RV-PA shunt during the Norwood operation.
