Abstract
ABSTRACT Cinnamomum verum , also known as “true cinnamon” or “Ceylon cinnamon,” is a widely used spice valued for its aroma and flavor, with centuries‐old medicinal and therapeutic applications. The present study validated and compared the effects of two ayurvedic preparations of C. verum ( Phanta and Hima) , against metabolic conditions employing in vitro, UHPLC‐MS/MS and in silico experiments. C. verum Phanta exhibited highest antioxidant and ferric reducing power, with EC 50 values of 7.543 and 3.927 mg/mL in the DPPH and ABTS assays. UHPLC‐MS/MS analysis revealed higher total phenolic content in Phanta (3073.731 ng/0.1 g) than in Hima (1990.168 ng/0.1 g). Phanta also exhibited significant inhibition of pancreatic amylase (74.2%), α‐glucosidase (64.8%) and pancreatic lipase (73.1%), validating its potential to manage hyperglycaemia and obesity. The cellular glucose uptake potential was higher in Phanta (74, 54 and 45%). Molecular docking revealed that catechin effectively bound α‐amylase (−9.1 kcal/mol), while Rutin emerged as key compound for α‐glucosidase and lipase (−7.8 and −9.3 kcal/mol) binding. These results support the potential of C. verum Phanta and Hima infusions as functional beverages, with Phanta demonstrating higher efficacy. Further in vivo and clinical studies are needed to validate their use in managing metabolic disorders.
