Progress on full⁃cycle management practices of elderly severe disease rehabilitation from ICU to community empowerment under a spatiotemporal progression perspective

From a spatiotemporal progression perspective,this article reviewed the advancements in rehabilitation management practices for elderly patients with severe illnesses throughout their full⁃cycle,from the ICU to the community.Considering the clinical characteristics of elderly patients with severe illnesses,such as multi⁃system functional decline,ICU⁃acquired weakness,and cognitive and psychological impairments,the importance of early identification and comprehensive assessment is emphasized.Currently,a patient⁃centered,multidisciplinary collaboration,and technology⁃enabled continuous rehabilitation model is key to optimizing the prognosis,delaying disability,and improving the quality of life for elderly patients with severe illnesses.However,there are still existing issues such as insufficient cross⁃institutional collaboration and inconsistent assessment tools.In the future,further efforts should be made to establish an integrated,full⁃cycle rehabilitation care system.
