Abstract
Lupus panniculitis is an uncommon type of chronic cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CCLE). In cases refractory to traditional immunosuppressants, management is challenging. Anifrolumab has shown effectiveness in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE); however, data on isolated cutaneous lupus are limited. A young female presents with painful subcutaneous nodules, diagnosed with lupus panniculitis based on skin biopsy, failed treatment with mycophenolate mofetil, hydroxychloroquine, azathioprine, and systemic corticosteroids. Anifrolumab was initiated and resulted in significant improvement without the recurrence of new lesions. We underscore the role of anifrolumab as a treatment option for refractory lupus panniculitis. However, additional studies are necessary to assess the long-term effectiveness and optimal treatment duration in CLE without SLE.
