to evaluate the effects of ginger intake on chemotherapy- induced nausea and vomiting among patients with bladder cancer.
Quasi experimental research design was utilized.
The study was carried out in Oncology Out patient clinice at Fayoum University Hospital & the new medical complex that affiliated to health insurance units, Egypt. Subjects: A porposive sample of 60 adult patients undergoing to recive chemotherapy which selected and assigned into two equal groups. Tools: Structured Interviewing Questionnaire that consists of Demographic and Medical, Rhodes Inventory of Nausea, Vomiting, and Retching (RINV) Questionnaire.
There was no significant change between 1st and 2nd day assessments in nausea, retching, vomiting index scores and total score of Rhodes Index (p>0.05). On 3rd day there was a statistically significant decrease in nausea index, retching and total score of Rhodes Index (p=0.006, 0.04, and 0.03 respectively), with no significance change in vomiting index score (p>0.05). On 4th day assessment there was a statistically significant decrease in nausea index and total score of Rhodes Index (p=0.04, and 0.03 respectively) with no significance change in (p>0.05), with no significance change in vomiting, and retching index score (p>0.05).Conclusion: Ginger had a positive effect on reducing patients' nausea, vomiting, and retching and total score of Rhodes Index. Recommendation: Replicate the study with larger and more diverse samples across different health setting to generalize findings. Ginger supplement should be implemented with the routine antiemetic care for bladder cancer patients undergoing to recive chemotherapy.
