Abstract
The First National Conference on Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine IntensivMat 2026, convened by the Student Scientific Society of Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine, Matanzas Chapter, was held in virtual modality from July 20 to August 15, 2026. It brought together 313 participants from across the country, including professionals, doctors, and students, with the purpose of strengthening scientific training in high-complexity settings. The organization was led by the student Richard Marcial Gálvez Vila and Dr. Mara Verónica Alvarez Valdés, together with members of SOCUMIE, student teaching assistants, and vertical interns, which consolidated a space for mentorship and generational relay. The central objective was to promote the exchange of knowledge through electronic posters and scientific courses. The opening included the lecture "Applications of AI in Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine: Current Challenges." The topics covered septic critically ill patients, mechanical ventilation, neurocare, point-of-care ultrasound, polytrauma, massive hemorrhage, acute renal failure, humanization, bioethics, artificial intelligence, cardiological emergencies, clinical simulation, and patient safety, among others. A total of 85 posters, 12 cases, and 16 courses were presented, exceeding expectations. Virtuality broadened the reach and inclusion of distant territories. The motto "Learn today, save tomorrow" synthesized the ethical commitment to life and professional excellence. The authors conclude that IntensivMat 2026 constituted a seedbed of vocations and a bridge between the present and future of Cuban intensive care medicine, with a sustainable and replicable model of student participation, rigor, and humanism.
