Abstract
To investigate differences in retinal shape between emmetropic and myopic eyes, peripheral biometry measurements were obtained for 54 young adult eyes using partial coherence interferometry. An ellipsoid model was fitted to each retina to determine the axial and transverse semiaxes, radii of curvature, asphericities, and decentrations. Linear mixed-effects models were applied to evaluate significance, correlations, and trends. The retinal asphericities reduced with increasing myopia and axial length ( p < 0.05), while the axial semiaxis increased ( p < 0.05). Emmetropic retinas exhibited oblate shapes ( Q x , Q y > 0), whereas myopic retinas were less oblate ( p < 0.05). Finally, a significant asymmetry between horizontal and vertical meridians ( p < 0.05) was found in both groups.
