Résumé
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder that causes serious harm to the mental health of both the patient and their family members, particularly when the patient refuses treatment involving medication and psychotherapy. Risperidone is one of the most commonly used medications; however, it is up to the physician to determine the best antipsychotic for the clinical condition of the vulnerable patient. In a letter presented during a WHO board meeting—marking World Health Day, commonly observed on May 24—UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon outlined an action plan to create better conditions and services for those affected by mental disorders, emphasizing the importance of family support for improved treatment and quality of life. Addressing the issue of schizophrenia, the organization highlighted that approximately 21 million people with the disorder suffer adverse effects on their mental well-being and quality of life, with many living in areas where health services are inadequate.
